 The Subaru/Toyota concept

The partnership between Subaru and toyota/Daihatsu called the "D Franchise" is going to have it's first off spring. Last year the two companies decided they would build a front engined rear wheel drive sports car. The two companies have held meetings to discuss the new car and have agreed that Toyota will control and guide the project. Subaru will design and provide the chasis and engine. The car is aimed at being an affordable sports car that will compete with nissan's new FR concept.

The sports coupe will be about the same size as an Integra with similar looks. The body will be wide, low and short to improve driving performance. The concept will use a 2+2 seating arrangement with a lift back. It will borrow from the old sprinter by looking like a corolla coupe with RWD. I guess this means it won't be too drastic in styling, and might help to keep costs down. it will be the replacement of both the Celica but what about the MR2?

Subaru will be responsible for the engine which at present will be the 2.5 litre na boxer engine that produces 123 kw, although this figure will probably rise when the car is released in 2011. The engine will be positioned between the front wheels quite low in the car. This will challenge the subaru engineers because at the moment the engine is forward of the front wheels. I guess this will work better because the car will be RWD. I do wonder whether they will have an All-wheel drive version. The flat four engine will give a low centre of gravity and with rear wheel drive this car will perform amazingly.
At the moment Subaru use 5 speed manual on the na cars although it is rumoured they will use a 6 speed for this car. Automatic versions are also going to be available. It would seem that they would put a tip tronic box in this car like the MR2 and i think this would be quite likely. The main emphasis for the drive train will be low friction free flowing engines with smooth sporty gearboxes. It is most likely subaru will use their brakes which is fine with me because they a fantastic.

Another Toyota hybrid concept car. looks great

There will be most likely two versions a subaru and a toyota both having their own looks. I wonder which one will sell better. As mentioned earlier Nissan have a similar car coming out in FR format and this car might have a 1.6 or 1.8 litre turbo engine. there are rumours this car might even use a hybrid engine. The new nissan which i guess is the replacement of the silvia is larger than the Subaru/Toyota. It's great for everyone in the end with all these cars aiming to be afordable sports cars . The Toyota and subaru will probably sell for $39000 - $42000 in standard form. The silvia probably a bit more.
