The all new Mazda RX-7 is on the drawing boards. The new car is set for release in either 2010 or 2011. With an all new style and using the new MX-5 chassis the car will be smaller than the RX-8.

The design will be bold with huge guards and bulging wheels reflecting the performance and capabilities of the car. The new car is set to be a real performance car using a boosted 13b turbo inter-cooled engine developing over 225 kw.

The new styling is based of the Kabaru concept car revealed in 2006. This model has long hood style and short lift back like older RX-7's. The windshield and forward portion of the roof are integrated into one seamless glass surface that extends from the cowl to the B-pillar. Overhead portions of the glass have adjustable tinting, so that the driver can adjust a knob to change the roof’s opacity, as desired, from clear to completely opaque.

Behind the B-pillar is a two-piece glass hatch. The uppermost glass panel normally lies flush. When pivoted-up by an electric motor, it acts as a roof spoiler, which also vents air from the interior and increases rear passenger headroom. A photovoltaic solar cell in the panel helps to control interior temperature, as well as helping recharge the battery for powering accessories. The larger glass hatch panel has side-mounted hinges to provide access to the Kabura’s cargo compartment.

Other technology that may be incorporated in the car is a hybrid engine. Mazda has designed a rotary gasoline/hydrogen motor that creates huge power a minimal amount of fuel. The engine is basically a dual fuel system with an electric motor as well. "Okay sounds pretty out their and i guess we'll understand it better in the future." The engine may also feature Mazda's new smart idling system which eliminates the need for a starter motor. This works by positions the piston or rotor in this case in a certain position so it will start strait away.

Safety systems that we may see on the car include Mazda's new anti side swipe system which alerts the driver to a collision from a car in your blind spot. This works through sensors that give the driver either a visual or sound warning. The headlights adjust to the direction of the car. which also control the high and low beams. The most amazing new safety technology Mazda is developing is an all in one system. This incorporates the electronically controlled steering, braking and acceleration and determines what the driver wants to do and what the car is actually doing. It uses this information and when needed takes over and controls these factors. These are great features however should still have a deactivation button for extra fun.

The new RX-7 concept seems to be top secret and we may not know exactly what direction it is heading in for a while. I see them building a car that fits in below the RX-8 that keeps the RX-7 heritage in a compact sporty design. The car will be a revolution as far as performance meets emmisions and fuel usage. It will also be a beautiful design with cutting edge safety features. The rotary sports car lives on and is still an individual.
