
The NSX needs no introduction. back in in 1990 i remember reading the article headline, "Does the world need another supercar". Well how things have changed. These days we applaud any manufacturer especially a japanese one who has the guts to sell a super car. The NSX was revolutionary. It was a real supercar, although somewhat under powered compered to a Ferrari. It sure did have the handling. The car simply did what it was intended to do, bring the reliable super car to the masses. The NSX was a well built and very reliable car packed with technology that could be driven everyday, Brilliant.
The NSX also had a lot to contend with. In the early nineties skylines and supras where selling like hot cakes. An even bigger contender was the MR2, although not quite a super car buyers put them in the same category and at half the price it was a hard sell. The nsx did not really sell that well and when you look back on it you can tell why. It was realy expensive. In Australia they cost over $200,000 which is abit much. America did a bit better they sold for around $75,000,m in fact the NSX was the most expensive japanese car in history. When it comes down to it. at the time if you had to choose between a porshe 911 a ferrari F355 and the NSX and it was a daily driver, guarenteed you would pick the NSX.
The NSX was not a simple car like a Lotus it was jam packed full of technolgy. The Honda uses an all aluminium chassis and body which drstically reduces weight. The engine is a V6 DOHC 24 Valve unit with 188 kw this was later increased to 216 kw with the introduction of the 3.2 litre unit. This engine introduced honda's VTEC sytem which uses variable valve timing and lift. The NSX did the 0-100 km/h sprint in under six seconds, which was also one of the fastest japanese cars in history as well. The NSX also comes with PGM-FI, a system pioneered in Formula One racing, as well as a direct ignition system. The NSX is also the first production car to use titanium connecting rods. This lightweight but strong material is also used in the F-15 fighter jet.
The NSX has amazing ability to turn around corners and many people labeeled the car "the best sports car ever". The suspension was designed with the incorporation of Ayrton senna at honda's own racing track Suzuka. The ability of this car was also due to the weight. The car only weighed aroung 1300 kg and this was the reason why it could keep up with a Ferrari 348. The high tech honda had oudone many of the european marks with it's high tech super car.
