New Subaru Impreza

We have been eagerly awaiting the true pics of the new Subaru impreza at spoilercar. Time after time sorting through websites finding mock up photos. When it was released in New York earlier this month we got our first real look. Well is a new impreza or a hatch back edition the all new sedan won’t t be seen in Australia until 2008.

It seems to me that Subaru has taken a car for everyone approach to the impreza line up. The new one will be aimed at the younger market trying to catch a stake in the hot hatch market. This is not a bad idea. How many people are driving mazda 3’s or hotted up golf’s. I bet all these people would trade in their cars for a 165 kw turbo awd version. The only problem is which one looks better.

ImageSubaru is owned by GM who unfortunately bought Daewoo and used their cars to fill holdens “cheap” line up. I am scared that this new impreza hatch has fallen in this bargain basement pit. The impreza is awkward from front to back. I’m sorry but this is the fastest Daewoo ever!

I don’t like to bag Subaru too much. I love them. They use the same drive train in five different basic models, which allows them to make great cars at a price the competitors hate. The only thing that lets them down is the odd ugly duckling. They seem to be a bit hit and miss. The liberty and forester look great however the new tribeca looks hideous (although reportedly drives great). I think that most people are disappointed in some Subaru models because the original looks so damm hot!

There is salvation for all Subaru lovers. The current model is still being sold in both wagon and sedan. In my opinion the current sedan looks great although maybe a bit mismatched between back and front. The flared guards and ridiculous bonnet scoop are bigger than ever. Suiting the rally bred origins of the car.

There’s another thing about the impreza I am interested in. The Australian delivered models come in a 2.5 ltr 165kw model or a STI version with 195kw. I have read about a C spec in the uk and a Japanese model with a 2.5 ltr twin turbo making 265kw. May we please have this!

Why not?

Would they not sell? I don’t think so.

Is there a reason we don’t have these. If anyone knows can we discuss it on the forum? If anyone at GM or Subaru is listening can they put this engine in the 2008 STI sedan?

The new sedan on the other hand is not bad. It is wider and has more interior space. The boot is longer as well. It looks neat and tidy. Although maybe a bit 3 series like. It would be good if Subaru could integrate a six speed manual and five speed auto with tip tronic.  And do something new with the drive train. Overall they are still great cars and there will eventually be a new great looking impreza.
